BRIEF OUTSTANDING SPORTS ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE ORGANISATION
ZUES – Youth of unity, vitality and awareness was founded by a group of youngsters in the year 1985 with a motto. “Non Stop to destination”
ZUES sincerely thanks all the members and students who have worked hard for the upliftment of the organisation. Then purpose of starting the club was to spot and nurture, inherent talent and to create awareness among youth in culture, literary and sports.
Keeping all this in mind it was decided to organise culture literary and sports programmes every year. In the year 1985 April, we launched our first summer athletic coaching camp for school children. There was over whelming response to this camp. Being first of its kind in Bangalore south, this programme gave an opportunity to develop the lither to neglected Jayanagar sports ground into an athletic stadium.
About 600 children (boys & girls) from over 50 schools around Bangalore were taught basics of athletics in the camp.
Free sport shirts were given to all the children. About ¼ litre of free milk was given to all the children every day. This was possible due to the sponsorship of ‘Khoday’s group of companies’.
About 250 children were selected from this camp were given advance coaching in Jayanagar sports complex. This enabled them to get laurels to their schools and clubs.
ZUES received CPM road race in the memory of Sri A.R Chickapapaiya, Doyen of Karnataka athletics. These races were grand success.
Spot essay and painting competition were conducted in the month of September 1987. Over 1000 students from various schools throughout the city took part. Sacred hearts, Kumaran’s and Carmel Convent schools bagged the championships in different categories.
The essay and painting were of high standards literally taking the judges by surprise. Inspire by the success of the above events our spirits soared high with zeal and enthusiasm to conduct the second summer athletic camp. This time the students were coached by N.I.S coach and by former Indian International Sri. Uday K. Prabhu who kept the Indian flag flying high in the international arena.
To facilitate P.T Usha (Indian sprint queen) “MEET P. T USHA” programme was organised in the month of May followed by road race and literary competition in essay and painting. Where a record number of 3000 children participated both of which were a great success. Our special thanks to Sarathi perfumery works, Kwality biscuits, Olympic toys & sports and Gangaram book house for contributing to the success of the events.
As a unique gesture in the literary field 75 meritorious 9th standard students were chosen from different schools from all over Banalore for their academic excellence. In a glittering yet simple function attended by heads of schools and parents of these children literary awards comprising a set of S.S.L.C text books and a merit certificate were awarded.
This was the first major sports championship organised by our association which was a great success, where many state records were shuttered and few new faces were introduced to the athletic field. This was possible due to Mrs. Prakash road lines, which sponsored the whole event. After the Prakash sports fest though we organised many more sports meet for school children to celebrate the competition 10th year of out organisation. We again took up a major Karnataka state senior and U-22 athletic championship 96 which was a great success. To be proud till this year more than 5000 students underwent training in camp so far. More than 5000 students represented the state in school level competitions and more than 300 athletes represented national level sports and games.
We are also proud to say that few of them are state record holders and national medallist from our camp.
We are proud that out of these people Muralidharan, Prashanth Kumar and Suil Kumar have been represented the country in International arena.
In spite of our achievements we have not received any aid from the government. Presently many more upcoming athletes from both school level and state are training in the camp.
In a view to bring self defence awareness. “ZUES” organised a national level martial arts fest-94. Where around 18 states took part and the Karnataka state team comprising 12 ZUES Karate-Kas stood in second position.
By the success of this championship, many individuals came forward to sponsor ZUES to organise self-defence courses for school and college students.
